In the 1960's, experimental British author B.S. Johnson published a novel that came as separate chapters in a box so that readers could read it in whichever order they liked. Or at least he tried to do so. A short run of the "book in a box" was produced, but a much larger run published it simply as a conventional book. However, as Scott Esposito reports, The Untouchables is being republished as its originally-intended loose-in-a-box format.
